Overview: Ishi Kobaneoh was only fifteen years old when she and her family were mercilessly attacked on the night of the full moon by werewolves, with Ishi being the last to die. On her deathbed, she was accidentally given her life back and was reborn as the thing she hated most in the world--a vampire. The question remains--what happened to Ishi during the two years before she met Lelouch Kastina?

~~~
It was a rather peaceful night. The atmosphere was cool, chilly almost, but that was to be expected since it was already nearing November. In a small cabin at the edge of the Obscure Woods, a family of four were preparing to lay down to rest for the night, calling for each other for last minute errands.
"Ishi, did you make sure that all of the firewood was neatly packed away in the shed?" An elderly feminine voice rang out.
"Kaltan, did you make sure that all of the firewood was neatly packed away in the shed?" A younger voice, that of a young woman's, repeated.
"Do I look like a slave? Why don't you just go and check for yourself?"
"Why should I go out there and freeze my butt off when you're still trussed up in your coat and boots? Not to mention the closest one to the door."
"No fair, Ishi! Why do I have to do all of your chores for you?"
"Because you are a little squirt in need of some good meat on your bones. Get some muscle and I'm sure the ladies will start loving you by tomorrow, Kal, especially her."
"That is not funny!"
Ishi Kobaneoh laughed as she dodged a blob of fur that was running at the speed of a bull. Kaltan spun around and attempted to try once more to tackle his sister, but unfortunately did not pay attention to his surroundings and rammed himself headfirst into the wall. He whimpered at the throbbing in his temple, sending his sister into an emotional storm.
"Kaltan! Are you okay?" Ishi asked, kneeling down and gently cradling his head. A mistake.
In an instant Kaltan had managed to catch her off guard and pin her down. "Gotcha sis!"
"You little sneak!" Ishi growled, "Just wait until I get my hands on you..."
"Ahem..." A cough from above made the siblings look, paling when they saw their mother shoot them a disapproving glare and tap her foot. "I believe we all understand the consequences for fighting in this household, including ignoring orders?"
"Yes, ma'am..."
"Good. Now stand up and turn around."
~~~

As soon as her chores were done, Ishi jumped into bed and snuggled under the covers, groaning slightly at the dull ache the back of her head provided when she laid her head down. Once again she and her brother discovered why their father feared his wife so much: she was vicious when she had to be. But it had all been Kaltan's fault! If only he had listened in the first place...

'That little bugger is going to get it rough in the morning...' She thought sleepily, eyes wandering aimlessly throughout her room and landing on an object that was highest on her shelf. It was a book, about the same size as a tome, one that her grandmother had given to her a long time ago as a farewell present before she had moved away to reside in Karas Oni. Although Ishi rarely had any free time to read given her numerous chores, she cherished it with her life and sometimes even held it close, inhaling the faint scent of her grandmother's ancient but pleasing perfume and of the worn leather that bound the book. It was the first and last gift ever given by her grandmother, and that was one of the reasons why it was so precious to the Kobaneoh. One of these days she would take the time to sit down and read it, and wonder just what it was that the pages held that made her grandmother so insistent that she keep it.

With those comforting thoughts in mind, Ishi soon dozed off into a peaceful sleep, oblivious to the howling that came from miles away.
